Kratom Basics: The Mitragyna Speciosa Tree

The Mitragyna speciosa tree is a very large, ancient tree native to Southeast Asia. It needs a specific climate in which to thrive and this includes regions such as Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and Vietnam. The tree can grow as tall as 100 feet and the leaves are chock full of natural compounds called alkaloids. The leaves are picked at varying life cycles (green, white and red) and the alkaloids increase in strength as the leaves age.

Leaves are picked, dried and often fermented for days to enhance the properties of the alkaloids, thus making the strength of the kratom even more intense. 

Where Thai Kratom Comes From

Thai Kratom is grown primarily in Thailand. However, due to some legal issues, it is also sourced from Indonesia. As the weather conditions in these areas are pretty severe, it only allows the kratom trees to produce even more alkaloids. Thai kratom is both extremely rich in 7-Hydroxymitragynine and Mitragynine. These alkaloids are known by kratom lovers for their many effects.
